I am 44, single and I live in Nebraska. I am the oldest of 3 kids, have one younger sister and brother, and 3 beautiful nieces, 17, 15 and 3, that are the light of my life. I work for an insurance company, and in my free time I enjoy working out, reading, spending time with friends, cooking and going to concerts.
I got serious about fitness about 4 1/2 years ago. I had been working out pretty consistently for many years, but I never really had any focus and didn't do anything to change my nutrition. I decided I wanted to get serious about losing weight. In March of 2013, my sister was planning a trip to visit us in NE later that summer. She posted on FB that she wanted to run a 5k while she was visiting. I made a commitment to her that if she found one to do, I would do it with her. So I downloaded the 5k runner app and got started on my running journey. I remember clearly the first time I ran a full 3 miles and got the runners high. I was hooked.
I kept up my running and started changing my eating habits. I gave up soda, which was huge for me. I quit eating fast food, I made my meals at home and started using whole, clean, organic ingredients. I ran a 5k. And then a 10k. And then a friend convinced me to try a half marathon. That day changed me forever. I loved the challenge, the training, the discipline required to make it happen. I lost a total of 45lbs. I gained confidence, strength and began to love who I am and what my body can do for me when I take care of it properly.
My WHY is my 3 nieces. I want to live to see them grow & life full lives. I want to be able to be active when I am elderly; I want to keep the active lifestyle all my life. I want to set an example of living a healthy and active life, and doing the things about which you are passionate.
Sorry if that is too long! Hard to get the whole story. I have included 2 photos. One is a before/after shot. They were taken about one year apart. July 2013 vs July 2014. The 2nd after my half marathon in May 2017.
