My name is Andrea (Drea for short).
I have struggled with weight my whole life. Up again, down again. My life changing event was in 2010, when I reached my highest weight ever, and I had to buy plus size clothing for the first time. I was devastated. It was then that I realized that change depended on me, and I was the only person responsible for my happiness.
One day, I checked how many calories I could burn by running and saw I could burn twice as many calories in half the amount of time as walking. I was influenced by a friend on Facebook, who would post her running pictures and race medals. I had never wanted to be a runner before, but it looked like fun! Medals!
I was too embarrassed to run in public, at first. I ran on my treadmill at home, until I lost a few pounds and until I could run a mile without stopping. Then I ventured outside. I had always heard about an exercise-induced high, but I never experienced it. I did with running, and I was hooked.
I have continued to struggle with weight, and I have struggled with sticking with diet and exercise routines. I feel like I am in a perpetual state of starting over again. I keep in mind that starting over again is still moving forward, which is better than moving backwards, or staying in one place, and the only way to reach that finish line is one step at a time. I am running again, after injury, and refocused on my general wellbeing, which includes weight loss, fitness, and friendship. And medals.
