Many, many of you have asked me recently about what I eat. How I eat….. etc…. (aside from eating cookies, I mean, because you ALL know how much I love cookies). It dawned on me I never really talked much about my journey, etc. So, let’s get this post checked off the list.
About 5 years ago – I embarked on a weight loss journey (this is me, below, about 15 years ago – I just gained weight from here on out)….
I was able to successfully lose about 40 pounds on my own through sheer agony – starving myself, trying to exercise, but ultimately, I stalled out. Evidently the starvation plus celery diet isn’t effective (who knew?)….So….one day, I hadmy “MOMENT!”
You can watch that HERE:

Go watch it. Go.
Ok, so now that you’ve watched it – you know why I drove to Jenny Craig.
I did not stop. I did not pass Go and collect $200. I just drove straight to the nearest center, and by the grace of G-d, good luck, or good karma, whatever you want to call it, got paired up with the VERY BEST Jenny Craig consultant in the history of, well, the history of consultants and Jenny Craig. Her name is Cindy. Don’t let that smile and cute hair fool you. She’s HARD CORE. She didn’t take any of my (lame, awful, heard-before, exhausted) excuses. She listened to me, she REALLY listened. She was probably as good or better than a therapist. That’s all part of the program. The consultants are there for YOUR success…it’s genius.
So …. we developed a plan for rewarding some weight loss with stuff besides food (in the past I’d reward weight loss with something like a pecan pie — don’t judge, it’s a weakness, that ooey gooey pecan goodness..I digress, again…) Instead of rewarding a loss with pie, I’d get a manicure, or a pedicure. Or a new shirt. Something besides food. #winning. As the months went on and on, I was able to successfully lose over 70 pounds (and am holding steady, maintaining the loss, and losing a little more, even, over 4 years later).
Why’d I pick Jenny Craig? Because everyone loves it. Every person I’d talked to, who’d done the program, had success on it. The food? Delicious. Portions? Correct (which, as a chronic over-eater, I gotta admit – it was rough that first week – a dinner portion would have been half an appetizer before I realized what I was doing wrong)…..The program? Proven effective. It works. It actually really and truly does. For ME – it was the perfect solution.
I’ve learned that I don’t have to starve myself to lose weight. I don’t have to eliminate dessert….because who wouldn’t want to eat THIS?
I don’t have to be miserable to lose weight. And neither do you. Life’s too short to not eat cake!
