A little Chat with Scott from Ordinary Marathoner

I can't lie, heifers. He's one of my favorites. He's the big brother I never wanted.  (Actually I think I'm older than him, so yeah...)  Scott had a very last minute cancellation, and had nobody else available on his A,B,C--->XYZ list... so he called me and of course, yanno, I had nothing else going on... so I was happy to chat with him for a bit.  Here's our podcast, below - as we chatted about #yellowshirtguy, racing (he asked me "DO YOU EVEN TRAIN?") and a few other fun topics:

Podcast #42 – Melissa Kahn

Her Heiferness, the Head Heifer herself, Melissa Kahn, is back for an encore guest appearance on the podcast.

Since we last spoke in Episode #25, “The Herd” at Run, Heifer, Run has grown exponentially and Facebook is all abuzz.  Melissa is getting the word out and people are responding.  She will even be a featured speaker at the Buffalo Marathon in late May.  We wish her the best of luck.

Thanks for coming on the podcast with such short notice, Melissa!

My Podcast with 300 Pounds and Running - Martinus

When my friend Martinus of 300 Pounds and Running called me, and asked me to be a guest on his podcast, how could I say no? This guy is the PICTURE of inspiration.

300PAR 018: “Run, Heifer, Run!” How Melissa Kahn lost 110 pounds!

Alright, goal crushers in this episode we talk with Melissa Kahn. Melissa is the founder of Run, Heifer, Run Blog.  The blog covers all things that involve Melissa’s weight and health journey. Run, Heifer, Run is a community that connects and shares tips but most importantly it is about laughter. Melissa believes that if we can’t laugh at ourselves and cut the bull, we can’t become better versions of who we are and who we’re destined to be. In this podcast, Melissa talks to us about who she is, her relationship with running, and lastly, she gives new runners advice to help them crush their goals.

Interview With Mark Purnell, Announcer for Rock 'n Roll Series Marathon

Oh Heifers! What a fun few weeks I've been having over here in the HeiferHood!

After my article Thank You For Calling Me Fatso went live, I've received so many emails and phone calls from SO many people, saying how it touched them in some way or another, and how, after reading it, they felt more empowered to tell THEIR own story.  What power in being vulnerable.

I was asked to be on Mark Purnell's broadcast - something which was just so much fun! Mark is the announcer for the Rock n Roll race series, as well as numerous other races - and he's kind of a badass athlete himself - I'm embedding the link below, to our interview, for those of you who want to take a listen.   Most runners know his energizing voice.

Mark is an inspiration himself - and it was an HONOR to be interviewed!  I'll be spending more time with Mark in the upcoming weeks and months, so be sure to check back for updated podcast/webcast links!

Please have a listen!

LIAM 322 – Thank You For Calling Me Fatso with Melissa Kahn

by Bruce Van Horn on February 27, 2017 in podcast

By the time I finished reading an article titled Thank You for Calling Me “Fatso” by Melissa Kahn, I was simultaneously in tears of sadness for the pain she endured and exuberantly proud to be a human being living on the same planet with her. I also knew, immediately, that I would have Melissa be a guest on this podcast to talk about her experience of being bullied because of her weight and, most importantly, how and why she turned her life around to support and encourage others. Listen to our inspiring conversation:

Melissa Kahn

Melissa Kahna Jenny Craig brand ambassador, half-marathon runner and mother of four, founded the online community called Run, Heifer, Run! as a way to connect with and encourage others who are on the journey to healthier and happier lives, one step or mile at a time. Five years ago, Melissa cut the bull and got serious about her health. Starting with a few steps, she lost over 110 pounds, worked her way up to running races and even completed a triathlon. She cleaned up her diet, shed weight and ultimately found a fitness enthusiast underneath her extra baggage.

Melissa does all of this from her heiferhood in sunny Phoenix, where her husband, teenagers and two crazy puppies remind her that we're all a little happier in a herd.

The race awaits.

Interview with Scott Riecke

Heifers,  I had the honor of being interviewed once again, this time by Scott Riecke (@OrdMarathoner on twitter)  who had a few questions for me on my weight loss, running, and the whole idea of Run, Heifer, Run! It's a 39-ish minute interview have a listen:  Click on the "Podcast #25" below to play it!

When your podcast hits the quarter-century mark, you have have to bring in a special guest to help you celebrate.  For us, that guest is Melissa Kahn, founder of the Run Heifer Run community.  After losing 110 pounds, Melissa became a spokesperson for Jenny Craig and has kept the weight off.  In part, she has accomplished this through running.  Her friend challenged her to run her very first race a few years ago – but not a 5k or even a 10k.  Melissa jumped in with both feet, starting her running career with a half-marathon!  She’s crazy!

She began developing her web-based community the past couple of years – and has gathered quite the Herd of Heifers!  (She assures me this is not an insult.)  This community of runners spans the entire spectrum of experience in the sport, from novice to expert.  If you have questions about running, someone there will have the answer or know how to get it.  Definitely check it out, and thank you so much Melissa for coming on the podcast.

Interview with Denny Krahe

A few weeks ago I had the honor to be interviewed by Denny Krahe, one of the best running coaches in...well ... the western hemisphere. :-)  You can find him here on Twitter or here, on his website.

Today, the podcast is live. Have a listen by clicking HERE.  I'm copying/pasting from his website, below, but by clicking the link you can listen to the audio interview, which takes about 50'ish minutes.  We talk about running, inspiration, weight loss, the amazing running community, etc.

Featured in an interview with Lew Everling

I am SO honored to have been featured in a 30 minute radio interview with Lew Everling (fitness guru)...   Here is the link below - disregard the interruption in the beginning - a lady was trying to speak to me through my (closed) car window as I was interviewing, live, for this.  Um... thanks random lady.

Click HERE to listen to 30 minutes of what I hope you will find to be an inspiration, backstory, and just some good natured discussion on Run, Heifer, Run, etc.
